Rustic Outdoor Weddings

Our grounds and facilities are well-suited for a rustic, outdoor wedding, with or without a tent, and we have plenty of room for the couple and their wedding party to spend the night or weekend. Several spots outdoors, including open fields by the brook and waterfall and a natural amphitheater with log bench seating, are among the choices for an outdoor wedding.

Our Lodge has a living room with a stone fireplace/ woodstove and a dining room that can seat 50, and our large commercial kitchen is available for your caterer or ours.

Your Hosts The Burr Family Welcomes You to The Woods

Living out their life-long dream, Jonathan and Lisa Burr purchased the former summer camp in 2004 after having run a successful Graphic Design studio in Central Connecticut for 15 years. They live on the property with their two school-aged children and their cat Bags.

Jonathan is an outdoors enthusiast who hiked all of the Appalachian Trail in 1985 (and hopes to someday do it again!). He is happy to share his knowledge of the on-site trails and his favorite, sweet fishing spots in the local area. Most of the time, you can find him on the property, creatively maintaining the buildings and grounds.

Lisa prepares the cottages for your arrival, and adds a welcome basket and special touches to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. She hopes to someday offer meals prepared in the commercial kitchen of the Main Lodge, but for now, just let her know your tastes and price range, and she'll direct you to one of the many restaurants in the area.

The History of The Woods at Wihakowi

Established as an exclusive girls' summer camp in the 1920s, Wihakowi has seen many generations of visitors, including boys, added to the camp in the 1940s. Other organizations that followed were the Vermont Congregational Conference in the 1950s-60s, the Life and Light Center in the 1970s, and, most recently, Camp Wihakowi was resurrected as a children's summer camp in the 1990s, focusing on respect for nature, the local wilderness, outdoor survival, Native American traditions, tracking, and especially fun for kids. The Woods at Wihakowi, established in 2005, offers guests many opportunities to experience the picturesque natural surroundings, and maintains the spirit of the most recent Camp Wihakowi, with a family-friendly atmosphere.
