Virginia Same-Sex Commitment Ceremonies

You have found the person with whom you want to share your life, and you deserve as meaningful and as memorable a ceremony as heterosexuals do. To achieve this goal I treat your ceremony like the marriage of two souls that it is.

Basically I treat these ceremonies the same as a wedding ceremony -- the difference being only in the legalistic name. I look forward to this type of union being recognized legally for what it really is, a marriage.

Your Values

As a celebrant I am dedicated to helping you have your values represented in your ceremony. Whether you feel you are spiritual, religious, or a humanist with an appreciation for our earth, I can help you create a ceremony that will emphasize whatever is most important to you as you make the transition to a new stage in your life.

Your Voice

The ceremony is the most important part of your wedding. If your ceremony feels personal and meaningful to you, something will happen during the ceremony that will take your relationship to a deeper level.  If it is a good ceremony it should act as part of the foundation upon which you build your marriage. If your ceremony is personal and expresses joy, the reception that follows will be all the more joyous.

To achieve this goal I work with you to find the readings and vows that best represent who you are and what you want to say to each other and to your community.

Your Ceremony

Your ceremony should reflect your innermost self, your heart, your soul and your values. I create and perform beautiful ceremonies that are unique and personalized. It is my job to listen to you and to help you create a ceremony that will be meaningful and mindful of whatever transition you are celebrating.

You may wish to focus on a cultural tradition, religion or have a secular, interfaith, or multilingual ceremony. I help you find the music, readings, rituals and vows to help reflect who you are and what you wish to say to your community.

I was born and raised Roman Catholic in a small town in Westchester County, NY. I loved the ritual and ceremony of the Mass, but as I grew older I could not relate to the dogma of the church.

At Boston University I studied Religion along with Psychology and Education.  As a young adult I studied Eastern Philosophies and practiced Yoga and meditation. I was also interested in Native American traditions as well as Earth / Nature-based beliefs.

I became a minister through The Church of the Gospel Ministry in 1975. I took my ministry to the people and worked with individuals with disabilities, and later worked with people living with AIDS.

I performed my first wedding in 1975 and have over the years created many ceremonies to commemorate the milestones and accomplishments of our children (we have three) and friends.

In 2004 I completed the requirements to become a certified Celebrant. A celebrant is a person who helps people create meaningful personalized ceremonies to celebrate all of the milestones in life.
