Sarah King and the Smoke Rings evoke the '30's and 40's with their elegant sense of swing, love of The Great American Songbook, and retro style. Led by pianist and musical director Alex Levin, a popular New York pianist and the leader of The Alex Levin Trio, Sarah King and the Smoke Rings creates a fizzy, fun atmosphere that is the perfect complement to a sparkly cocktail or a glass of champagne.

Vocalist Sarah King brings to mind the singers of yesteryear: Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Blossom Dearie, but she has a style that is truly all her own. She sometimes adds an additional level of joy to the proceedings through her sparkling ukulele playing.

Endlessly adaptable, the band prides itself on its flexibility: Sarah might sing and accompany herself on the ukulele during the ceremony, only to be joined by piano and bass, or piano, bass, and drums during the cocktail hour and the reception. If it's dance music you're looking for, the band expands up to a six-piece combo wit saxophone, guitar, and/or trumpet.

The Montauk Club, a private club in Brooklyn, New York, engaged Sarah King and the Smoke Rings to perform for our new member night, based on a member's introduction. We did not know what to expect, but they were terrific! They set the perfect tone for our event -- energetic and engaging, yet somehow subdued enough not to draw attention away from the business at hand of orienting new club members to the club.

They were able to strike the perfect balance of playing music that you wanted to stop and listen to, because it was so good, but that did not demand that you stop what you were doing and listen.
