Capturing the Spirit of the Moment

Gina and Susan are two ladies in love. They are such a happy, loving couple dedicated to each other for life. Vacation plans to Hawaii was something they had looked forward to for months. Gina had bought matching Aloha-style swimsuits and they both brought beautiful, sparkling evening gowns. The shoot was sexy and fun with lots of great images to fill their vacation photo album. They promised to return next year for their wedding! And guess whom they booked for the photographer? Yes, Donna Welch Photography.

The island of Oahu is paradise, it has everything that a person could want; beautiful Pacific ocean beaches, romantic sunrises and sunsets on display for lovers, waterfalls, rainforests, city life, shopping galore, fine dining and leisurely cafes to sip lattes and ‘talk story’ (an Hawaiian slang for chit-chat). But, one of the most appealing aspects of the Honolulu area is their open friendliness to gay/lesbian couples and individuals.

Donna Welch’s passion for photography captures the spirit of the moment whenever she on a shoot. She genuinely cares about each person she photographs and is able to form a friendship, often before she even meets them. Communication through email, calls and a pre-shoot meeting to discuss details, her ideas and the client’s ideas allows them to connect on a personal basis.

It is obvious that Donna enjoys the photography experience as much as her clients do. “People in love… ahh, they are the most blessed people in the world”, she shares with us. “I want to capture their magic, the twinkle in their eyes, the gentleness of their touch, their laughter as well as their hopes and dreams. It’s all there ~ in their posture, their mood and especially in their eyes. If they trust me, they will allow it to shine through.”

Tess and Olivia wanted romantic shots on the beach, as did Jasmine and Angel, but Courtney and Lynn wanted more freedom and seductive shots on a secluded beach. “Weddings and engagement shoots are very special,” explained Donna, “each one is unique and I cater to their wishes.”

Individuals enjoy photo shoots for a variety of reasons. Many view this as a great activity to enjoy, bringing home the ultimate souvenir. Some want to perfect their modeling or acting skills while building their portfolios, while other gay and lesbian clients desire to have creative artwork to decorate their homes.
