The Newlyweds - Andrew and Jeremy

Martha Stewart's First Gay Wedding

Michael Jamrock had the pleasure of sitting down and talking with Andrew and Jeremy.Jamrock– Ok guy’s first question. How does it feel to be legally married? Jeremy– I didn’t think I was going to feel any different, but I did. We practiced our vows weeks before the wedding and then stopped because we wanted it to sound fresh and the ceremony itself was so powerful, more powerful than I could have ever imagined. I cried, it was intense. Andrew– It was an amazing feeling to have 75 guests with friends and family all who were very supportive it was beautiful. Jamrock– Where do you keep your marriage license? Jeremy– We already have our Domestic Partnership License from the state of NY and that is hanging on the fridge. Andrew– Right now it is in a drawer but maybe we will get it framed and display it. I don’t know. Jamrock – Who asked who? Andrew– It was mutual we just knew. Jamrock– Like it says on your napkins. Andrew – Yes. Jeremy– We had planned to get married in California. We had everything booked. We were going to get married at the Nestledown Retreat in Silicon Valley, California, we had the band, everything. Then prop 8 got over turned and we had to cancel. Andrew– When we were planning that wedding, the vendors made us put a clause in our contracts stating if prop 8 gets over turned we were still liable. Our band Jacqui Nalor felt so bad for us that she decided to fly to Connecticut and perform there. And she did. Jamrock– What is your thoughts on the venue Winvian you selected? Andrew– We consider ourselves to be a bit snobby, yet we like to be down to earth and comfortable, and that’s what the Winvian is. We love the lifestyle of Manhattan, but we also like to escape. At Winvian it is not rare to see a rustic barn with a 15,000 dollar plasma T.V.. That’s how we are it was just a best fit. Jeremy– The Tree House was amazing, and we had the best breakfast ever. It was some sort of Truffle, Goat Cheese Egg Omelet. Then there was the Butler service, they don’t let you do anything and you want for nothing. If you need your fireplace lit they will do that. If you have to walk more than fifty yards they will over to drive you in their cart. Anything you want you get. Jamrock– Candi and those table settings were, just wow. How did that come about and where did you find all that stuff? Especially that Gremlins Gizmo cereal box? Jeremy– The gremlins Cereal box we got on e-bay. Most of the items came from flea markets. We love this one in particular called the Elephant Trunk in New Milford, CT. Candi was great she saw things that we couldn’t. That is the one gay gene I didn’t get. She was so willing and so enthusiastic. I would send her these enormously long e-mails thinking that I was micromanaging her and it was too much, but no she wanted to go above and beyond that saying we need more…She had so many ideas, and she made it best . Andrew– We had a lot of fun creating the tables. Candi took the ideas and went from 0 to a million in the imagination department. She was also very easy to work with. Jamrock– Who’s idea was it to make the table number out of toast with the number burned into it? Andrew – It was Jeremy’s idea that I implemented. Jamrock– Ok hard question. Out of all the table settings which is your favorite? Jeremy you first. Jeremy– We both love to cook so mine would be the food table with the baked apple pie, Crisco, and Easy Bake Oven. Jamrock– Andrew Andrew– I love cars so I would say the car table with the sort of 70’s Tonka Dump Truck with the flowers in the back. Jamrock– And what can you tell me about Jacklyn from Jag? Jeremy– Amazing composition. We never expected to have such great quality photos. It was a blessing to have her. Andrew– We actually were very close to signing a contract with another photographer, and then we had one conversation with Jacklyn and we just knew. We loved the fact that she was an environmentalist and a vegetarian. She also shot our engagement party as well. Jamrock– Ambiance {Chic} was your wedding planner Erica to be exact. What can you tell me about working with her and using a planner in general? Jeremy– Initially we did not want to have a wedding planner. But now looking back we couldn’t have done it without her. She was so in control and what she did with all the rentals and organizing everything was amazing. The day of she made sure everyone was taken care of. She and her staff even took care of Bosley (Our Dog). She had this wonderful ability to keep everyone and everything calm. Andrew– She really complimented us. She did thing that we didn’t have the expertise to do. She was imperative to the success of that day. Jamrock– What was the most touching moment for you Andrew? Andrew– Probably seeing Jeremy crying like a baby. Also my father is the warmest and most caring man. Seeing him on that day was wonderful. Jeremy– Definitely Andrews’s family. When Andrews parents came back for me after they walked Andrew down the aisle, I was just in tears. Jamrock– How about the silliest moment of the day? Andrew– Bosley, our dog was dressed in a seersucker suit, and by the end of the day he had that thing all tore up. Also, there was something about Winvian’s grass that Bosley couldn’t get enough of. He kept eating the grass and his breath was nasty. Jeremy– The kids on the dance floor. I swear, they danced from the first song all the way till the last song and never stopped. They would have danced for hours more if they could have. Jamrock– Well now that you have done it. Twice actually. You planned the wedding first in California and then in Connecticut. What advice can you give our couples on EnGaygedWeddings.com? Jeremy– First choose a state where it is legal. Don’t rush into your vendors and never settle. Take your time and surround yourselves around good people. Andrew– make sure your vendors are gay friendly. You can hear it in their voices and tell if they are or not. Jamrock– How did the whole Martha Stewart thing come about? Jeremy– I have a Public relations background and I contacted them. They called back and said yes they were interested and from then on it was a great experience. We are excited that we are In the 15th anniversary edition. Andrew– They treated us like any other couple and being gay wasn’t even an issue or was it brought up (From Martha’s staff) and that’s the way it should be. Jamrock– I thank you both very much for talking with me today. Congratulations and all the warmest wishes. Andrew– Thank you. Jeremy– Thanks so much.
