Steven or Teresa Beltramo
550 15th St. Showroom 1
San Francisco, CA 94103
For over 30 years, Ambiance Antiques has been a premier venue for the purchase or rental of 18th and 19th Century French antiques. Each antique is selected by Teresa Beltramo, with a careful eye towards authenticity, design, scale and craftsmanship - the prerequisites for pieces of lasting beauty and value. We are located in the San Francisco Design District.
The space is also available for photo shoots and an adjoining kitchen is available for rent for private parties, corporate events and weddings.
... that you want to tell everyone you know about it. Ambiance Antiques, located in the historic Showplace Square West, is just such a place. The red-bricked structure was built over 100 years ago, and was once the scene of The City’s most talked-about VIP soirées. For the last seven years, it’s housed Ambiance Antiques’ sumptuous 6000-square-foot showroom, designed by luminary architect Ron Mann. Evoking the romance of bygone eras and foreign lands, this family-run antiques mecca is well-known to discerning design aficionados seeking Architectural Digest-worthy finds. Now, in somewhat of a return to its roots, this stunningly original setting has opened its doors for special events, film/photo shoots and weddings.
As soon as you step through the private, awning-covered entrance, you’re surrounded by some of the most beautiful furniture and decorative arts you’ve ever seen outside of a museum. But Ambiance Antiques is as far from a stuffy museum as a 19th-century walnut armoire is from an Ikea bookcase. Though the overall look is chic and elegant, thick plaster walls, massive wood beams and distressed stone floors lend a comfortable, “lived in” aesthetic, and curved niches and graceful archways recall a luxurious Old World villa. A series of high-ceilinged open rooms and multiple levels flow effortlessly into each other, a layout that offers something compelling to look at in every direction: an intricately carved Swedish cabinet; a gilded Italian mirror; a 17th-century tapestry and, of course, lots of fabulous glittering chandeliers.
The main room boasts a soaring 23-foot ceiling, with natural light pouring in from floor-to-ceiling windows. When it’s set up for a wedding, the bride descends a staircase from the mezzanine and vows are exchanged in a raised alcove to one side. Some of the valuable items on display, which change periodically, can be integrated into your ceremony. For example, you may want to use an ethereal, hand-painted harp to herald the bride’s dramatic entrance or place ornate columns on either side of the alcove for an altar effect.
Afterwards, have your cocktail hour right here or arrange multiple bars (using a 200-year-old mahogany credenza, perhaps?) in any one of the adjoining spaces. There are a variety of room options for either a sit-down or buffet reception, and you can choose the configuration that best matches your event vision. Great acoustics in the main room means that your DJ or band can entertain from one of several platforms and still be heard throughout the galleries. The mezzanine, featuring a faux hearth and kidney-shaped banquettes, makes a fantastic lounge area with bird’s-eye views of the revelry below.
This downtown showroom is an art director and wedding planner’s dream—with access to more than a million dollars worth of rare objets d’art and eclectic furnishings, there’s no need to “dress the stage” for your event. Also, the congenial owners will move pieces around or remove them altogether to accommodate your vision. But what really sets Ambiance Antiques apart is the opportunity to host your celebration right in town, yet feel like you’re time-traveling the world, enveloped by grace and beauty. "
